2023-03-28

Hamburg municipal operator Hamburger Hochbahn has purchased five Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses. The buses could be in service in Hamburg as early as the second quarter of 2024. (Solaris Urbino is based in Poland.)

The Solaris Urbino 12-meter bus will be powered by a 70kW hydrogen fuel cell. Solaris has been working on hydrogen-related technologies since 2014.

Javier Irriarte, CEO of Solaris Bus & Coach, said the city of the future is a space of people and friendly environments. Modern public transport plays a key role in sustainable urban development. Proud that we can make a real difference by delivering zero-emission buses.

Henrik Falk, CEO of Hamburger Hochbahn, said fuel cell technology remains an important strategic choice for the company. We are pleased to cooperate with Solaris to purchase 5 12m hydrogen fuel cell buses.

In September 2022, Solaris launched the Urbino 18-meter articulated hydrogen bus.
