Michelin and Watèa work together to expand hydrogen mobility

2023-11-27

Watèa by Michelin, a mobility operator specializing in the energy transition of professional fleets, is expanding its services to offer hydrogen-fueled vehicles in conjunction with the Solutrans exhibition.

This new service will enable Watèa customers to enjoy the many benefits of hydrogen-fueled vehicles. The role of hydrogen in fleet electrification continues to grow, with the global number of fuel cell vehicles growing by 40% in 2022.

The service offers a subscription-based one-stop shop for hydrogen vehicles, refueling station solutions, maintenance and 24-hour assistance, as well as a range of digital services. The subscription also offers European, national and regional subsidies, including from the French Agency for the Environment and Energy (ADEME) and the Auvergne Rhone-Alpes Region of France; Watèa will handle all administrative procedures with the relevant agencies.

In line with its decarbonisation mission, Watèa has also chosen to provide its customers with renewable and low hydrocarbon fuel hydrogenation services.

Pascal Nouvellon, CEO and President of Watèa, said: "To make progress in decarbonising our commercial fleet, we must provide our customers with the most advanced electrical technology. After a long period of testing and development, Watèa has launched its service for hydrogen-fueled electric vehicles. In fact, hydrogen-fueled electric vehicles enable users to circumvent some of the limitations associated with battery-powered vehicles: they have a longer range and, more importantly, significantly shorter refueling times. In cities such as Paris and Lyon today, the hydrogen ecosystem is mature enough and demand from customers is strong.
