Uae Masdar announced the construction of a green hydrogen project to promote the green transformation of local steel mills

Recently, the UAE renewable energy developer Masdar announced that it will cooperate with Emirates Steel Arkan, a local steel manufacturing company in the UAE, to build a green hydrogen energy project to help promote the UAE steel industry to accelerate the decarbonization process and transform to a green steel plant.

The project will be located at Emirates Steel's plant in ABU Dhabi Industrial City in the United Arab Emirates and is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2024.

At that time, the UAE steel plant will use hydrogen energy as fuel for iron ore smelting, and some of the products produced will become "green steel" and "green iron".

The global process of carbon neutrality is accelerating, and as a major carbon emitter, the steel industry accounts for about 8-9% of global carbon emissions, so it is imperative to decarbonize steel.

While the UAE is leading the way in decarbonizing the steel industry in the region, Saudi Aramco's collaboration with Baosteel on green steel mills is also moving forward.
