$1.5 billion Green Hydrogen Project! The Indian state of Gujarat and the two companies signed an MoU

Indian utility company Torrent Power has agreed to invest in the construction of a Rs 72 billion (US $866 million) green ammonia plant as part of its Rs 470 billion (US $5.7 billion) power project in Gujarat, International Energy Network has learned. According to local media, the total capacity of the project is 100,000 tons per year, but it is unclear whether this refers to hydrogen (H2) or ammonia (NH3).


Not long ago, Torrent Power just set up a green hydrogen subsidiary, participated in India's green hydrogen production subsidy tender, plans to produce 18,000 tons of hydrogen per year. In July 2023, Torrent Power also launched a start-up pilot project in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradeh, to blend 2.5% hydrogen into the city gas network.


In addition, Erisha E Mobility, which was founded by Rana Group in 2021, plans to invest $600 million in a green hydrogen plant in cooperation with Europe. Further details about the plant's size and expected output have not been disclosed.


Gujarat is targeting an annual production of 8 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2035, with the state's first pilot plant at Larsen and Toubro set up in 2022 with a capacity of 45 kg per day.
