world’s first hydrogen-powered RV is released. NEXTGEN is truly zero-emission

2023-04-24

First Hydrogen, a company based in Vancouver, Canada, unveiled its first zero-emission RV on April 17th, another example of how it is exploring alternative fuels for different models. As you can see, this RV is designed with spacious sleeping areas, oversized front windscreen and excellent ground clearance, while giving priority to the driver’s comfort and experience.

Developed in collaboration with EDAG, a leading global vehicle design firm, this launch builds on First Hydrogen’s second generation light Commercial Vehicle (LCVS), which is also developing trailer and cargo models with winch and towing capabilities.

The model is powered by hydrogen fuel cells, which can offer more range and a larger payload than comparable conventional battery electric vehicles, making it more attractive to the RV market. Rv usually travel a long distance, and is far from the gas station or charging station in the wilderness, so long range becomes a very important performance of the RV. Refueling of the hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) takes only a few minutes, about the same time as a conventional gasoline or diesel car, while recharging an electric vehicle takes several hours, hampering the freedom that RV life requires. In addition, the domestic electricity in the RV, such as refrigerators, air conditioners, stoves can also be solved by hydrogen fuel cells. Pure electric vehicles require more power, so they need more batteries to power the vehicle, which increases the overall weight of the vehicle and drains the battery’s energy faster, but hydrogen fuel cells don’t have this problem.

The RV market has maintained significant growth momentum over the past few years, with the North American market reaching $56.29 billion in capacity in 2022 and projected to reach $107.6 billion by 2032. The European market is also growing rapidly, with 260,000 new cars sold in 2021 and demand continuing to soar in 2022 and 2023. So First Hydrogen says it is confident about the industry and sees opportunities for hydrogen vehicles to support the growing market for motorhomes and work with the industry to achieve zero emissions.
