2024-02-22

The state of California has awarded Stadler Rail a $127 million order for six hydrogen-powered passenger trains.

It is reported that California has ordered four hydrogen powered intercity trains in 2023, and the latest order of four hydrogen powered intercity trains will be officially put into operation in 2027. In addition, Caltrans has an option for 19 trains under a contract signed in October 2023.

In this case, with the delivery of hydrogen-powered intercity trains in California, it is expected that the region can achieve zero emissions of hydrogen trains in 2023. Still, the application of hydrogen-powered trains faces some challenges.

It is understood that hydrogen-powered trains, as an emerging mode of rail transit, have the characteristics of environmental protection and efficiency, and have broad application prospects in the field of rail transit in the future. At present, China, the United States, India, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Poland, Austria, Spain, Malaysia and other countries have made good progress in promoting the application of hydrogen trains, and the exploration activities of hydrogen rail transit are becoming more and more active around the world, but also provide more opportunities and broader markets for enterprises.
