Nikola Motors&Voltera entered into a partnership to build 50 hydrogen refueling stations in North America

Nikola, a U.S. global zero-emission transportation, energy and infrastructure provider, has entered into a definitive agreement through the HYLA brand and Voltera, a leading global infrastructure provider for decarbonization, to jointly develop a hydrogenation station infrastructure to support the deployment of Nikola's zero-emission vehicles.

Nikola and Voltera plan to build 50 HYLT refueling stations in North America over the next five years. The partnership solidifies Nikola's previously announced plan to build 60 refueling stations by 2026.


Nikola and Voltera will create the largest network of open refueling stations in North America to supply hydrogen to a variety of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, accelerating the spread of zero-emission vehicles. Voltera will strategically select the site, construction, and operation of the hydrogen refueling stations, while Nikola will provide expertise in hydrogen fuel cell technology. The partnership will accelerate Nikola's multi-billion dollar deployment of electric vehicle charging and refueling station infrastructure.

Carey Mendes, president of Nikola Energy, said Nikola's partnership with Voltera will bring in significant capital and expertise to support Nikola's plan to build a hydrogen refueling infrastructure. Voltera's expertise in building zero-emission energy infrastructure is a key factor in bringing Nikola's hydrogen-powered trucks and fuel infrastructure to market.

According to Voltera CEO Matt Horton, Voltera's mission is to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission vehicles by developing sophisticated and expensive infrastructure. By partnering with Nikola, Voltera will focus on expanding and significantly increasing its hydrogen fuel infrastructure, reducing barriers for operators to purchase vehicles at scale and achieving mass adoption of hydrogen trucks.
